Fundraising

Project 1

This fabulously successful project was headed up by maya and slave robin…

What:

The fund raiser for the Sharon St. Cyr Fund, which provides assistance to hearing-impaired individuals and ASL signing for conferences was a bang-up success last night at the Dallas Eagle! Even with many, MANY other great events that were scheduled the same evening, we had a fantastic turnout! (And the weather gods clearly LOVE the SSCF!)

What you all raised:

The early take shows that more than $6,000 was raised because of YOUR largess; every time we turn around, the DFW & North Texas communities blow us away! Your generosity for deserving charities is simply wonderful…

Thanks:

There isn’t nearly enough room to thank all the volunteers, donors, sponsors, Eagle staff — and our headliner drag show to end ALL drag shows, coordinated by the amazing LIPS LARUE; ladies & gentlemen, you were all simply spectacular! And a special thanks to Steve Waldren, our auctioneer extraordinaire! GREAT cocktail parties were hosted by the Dallas Girls of Leather & T Bears! Also bootblack titleholders Kristin and Brenton worked hard to make dozens of boots gleam!

PLUS!

Thanks to Mark & Jeffrey at the Dallas Eagle for once again supporting causes in our community. Cover off!

The mission of the SSC Fund:

Our mission is that together, with the community, the Sharon St. Cyr Fund, Inc. (SSC Fund) will create different programs to raise funds to provide hearing aids for hearing-impaired individuals and provide grants to organizations for ASL interpreting services for the deaf and hard of hearing community.”

Project 2

Food pantry, Resource Center of Dallas – John Thomas Center

An ENORMOUS success! The DFW region kinksters donated more than 4,188 food items to the pantry — in addition to more than $3,000 in cash, most due to the largess of NLA-Dallas and the phenomenal DIK angels! Considering our original goal was 1,000 food items, you all blew the top off it!

The DFW kink, BDSM & Leather Communities — and LHC  — all helped to feed those with HIV/AIDS one can at a time during 2011; Knotty Jeanette was the LHC Coordinator for this drive. We began collecting cans at NLA-Dallas meetings and events, 4th Friday, and at local munches and groups when we presented for them. For those able and willing, we collected checks made out to the Center; cash donations were handled through the NLA-Dallas Treasurer directly only.

Resource Center Dallas’ Nutrition Center/Food Pantry, founded in 1985 out of a cardboard box at the corner of Cedar Springs Rd. and Throckmorton St., is now the size of a small grocery store. It serves more than 800 clients with HIV/AIDS Monday through Thursday, allowing clients to shop for fresh produce, canned goods, frozen foods and perishables.

Food for the Nutrition Center/Food Pantry is purchased from the North Texas Food Bank, as well as through generous donations from supermarkets, restaurants, caterers and community groups. Pantry services are only available to Resource Center of Dallas clients. [map]

HIDE OUT! – Women’s History Leather Project (LA&M)
Fun
dRaising Event,
October 23, Dallas Eagle

North Texas raised $5,719+ solely designated for the Women’s Leather History Project (WLHP)!  This project represents the LA&M’s ongoing commitment to making the diverse voices of women in leather visible and heard. The WLHP will collect artifacts, stories, and other items that represent the experience of all women (straight, gay, bisexual, transsexual, transgender, women of color). The resulting collections will be featured in future exhibitions at the Leather Archives & Museum.
